Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord.
Philippians 3:8, King James Version
It's easy to hand Him my sin. It's harder to hand Him my crown.
Most of us have no trouble giving God our failures. Take my sin, take my mess, take the things I am ashamed of. That part feels like relief.
The harder surrender is the good stuff. The degree. The title. The name people call you in the rooms where you are respected. The man you built for people to admire. Those are the things we hold onto, because they feel like ours.
This song asks Jesus to take those too.
I count all things but loss
Paul knew this struggle better than anyone. In Philippians 3:4 to 6 he lists his credentials. The right family. The right tribe. The best training. Blameless by the standards of his day. If anybody had letters after his name, it was Paul.
Then in verses 7 and 8 he says, what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord.
Take the letters after my name. Take the years I spent proving what I never had to prove. That is Philippians 3 sung by a modern man.
What surrender looks like
Proverbs 3:5 and 6. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. The first verse of the song begins here. I leaned on my own strength. I thought my learning would be enough.
2 Corinthians 10:5. Bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. Every thought and every word, let them be of Thee.
Revelation 3:7. Jesus is the One who opens doors no man can shut, and shuts doors no man can open. Every door I forced that You never opened. Some doors were closed on purpose.
John 3:30. He must increase, but I must decrease. If emptying me is how You fill me, then empty me.
Matthew 16:25. Whosoever will lose his life for My sake shall find it. The man you built without God may have to go. And if I lose him, let me lose him.
Revelation 4:10. In heaven, the elders cast their crowns before the throne. The crown was never meant to stay on our heads.
An old prayer in new words
The church has sung this prayer for a long time. Frances Havergal wrote Take My Life and Let It Be in 1874. Judson Van DeVenter wrote I Surrender All in 1896. Many of us grew up singing both.
Jesus, Take It All stands in that line, but it names the things a modern believer actually struggles to give up. Not just sin. The reputation. The rooms. The years of proving.
What the song is about
Jesus, Take It All is a song of full surrender. It moves from the easy things we give God to the hard ones, the plans, the names, the version of ourselves we built without Him. It ends with a simple honesty. I've got nothing that You need, and everything You asked for. Take it all.
Jesus, Take It All is the album's song of full surrender. Daalu by Michael CU is out on 3 November 2026.
A prayer of full surrender
Jesus, it is easy to give You my sin. Today I give You my crown too. Take my plans, my titles and the name I wanted people to call me. If emptying me is how You fill me, then empty me. I am nothing without You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Jesus, Take It All lyrics
IntroJesus, take it all
Jesus, take it all
Jesus, take it all
Jesus, take it all
Verse 1Every thought and every word
Let them be of Thee
Every feeling rising up from my heart
Every day, still the aching
Jesus, take it all
Every sin and every wrong
I leaned on my own strength
I thought my learning would be enough
I wanted things
I could be proud to call my own
But you showed me love
And you told me to wait
And I still want to be
All I thought I'd be
ChorusJesus, take it all
Jesus, take it all
Every prayer, every longing, every part
Jesus, take it all
Take my name
I am nothing without you
Verse 2Every plan I wrote in my own hand
Every name I wanted them to call me
Every door I forced
That you never opened
Jesus, take it all
I built a man for people to admire
And I don't know him anymore
Take the version of me
I made without you
And if I lose him
Let me lose him
ChorusJesus, take it all
Jesus, take it all
Every prayer, every longing, every part
Jesus, take it all
Take my name
I am nothing without you
BridgeIt's easy to hand you my sin
It's harder to hand you my crown
Take the letters after my name
Take the rooms where they know my name
Take the years I spent proving
What I never had to prove
If emptying me is how you fill me
Then empty me
If breaking is how you build
Then break the walls I made
I've got nothing that you need
And everything you asked for
Take it all
Take it all
ChorusJesus, take it all
Jesus, take it all
Every prayer, every longing, every part
Jesus, take it all
Take my name
I am nothing without you
OutroTake it all
