We can fill a room. We cannot make the wind blow.
We have better sound systems than any generation before us. Better lights. Bigger halls. And many of us still walk out of church on Sunday exactly the way we walked in.
That is the honest starting point of this song. Everything we can do, we have done. What we need now is the one thing we cannot produce. We need God to move.
The church has a word for that. Revival.
What is revival in the Bible?
Revival is when God breathes fresh life into people who already know Him but have grown cold, tired or dry. It is not a program. It is not a crusade with a date on the poster. It is God coming down.
Psalm 85:6. Wilt Thou not revive us again, that Thy people may rejoice in Thee? The prayer for revival is old. Israel prayed it too.
Ezekiel 37. God shows Ezekiel a valley full of dry bones and asks, can these bones live? Then the breath comes, and they stand up as an army. The second verse of this song prays that over every tired person in the room. Breathe on the bones in this valley.
Acts 2. On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came with the sound of a rushing mighty wind and tongues like fire. Some people watching said the believers were drunk. Peter answered that it was only the third hour of the day, about nine in the morning. That is where the line comes from. Let them say we're drunk at nine in the morning.
John 3:8. Jesus says the wind blows where it wishes. You hear the sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it goes. That is why the bridge says we can't schedule You. Revival cannot be booked. It can only be waited for.
How to pray for revival
Start with honesty. Tell God where you are cold. Revival always begins with people who admit they need it.
Then wait. Most of the great revivals in history began with small groups who kept praying long after it made sense to stop. 2 Chronicles 7:14 gives the pattern. Humble yourselves, pray, seek His face, turn from wicked ways. Then I will hear from heaven.
And keep your hands open. You are not asking for a feeling or a show. You are asking for God Himself.
What the song is about
Revival is a cry for the Holy Spirit. It confesses that the songs and the lights are not enough, asks for wind and fire and a wave that takes the shore, and then settles in to wait. We are not leaving until something happens. The last part of the song is simply that waiting, sung over and over. Fall on us.

Holy Spirit, we have done everything we know how to do, and we still need You. Come like wind and fire. Breathe on the dry bones in our churches and in our hearts. Do not let us leave Your presence the same way we came in. Revive us again. In Jesus' name, Amen.
