Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2, King James Version
Who are you praying for?
There is a woman on your street who prays with her back to the window. There is a man who cannot tell his wife that the money is finished. You pass them every day. You may never know their names.
Most of our prayers are about ourselves. That is not wrong. God wants to hear it. But somewhere along the way, if He has carried you through anything, a new prayer starts to rise. Lord, carry them too.
That prayer has a name. Intercession. Standing in the gap for someone else.
What the Bible says about praying for others
Galatians 6:2. Bear one another's burdens. Prayer is one of the ways we do it, even for burdens we cannot see.
Exodus 17:12. When Moses grew too tired to hold up his arms, Aaron and Hur stood on either side of him and held them up until the battle was won. That is intercession. You hold up the arms of people who cannot hold them up themselves.
1 Timothy 2:1. Paul asks that prayers and intercessions be made for all people. Not only for friends and family. For all.
Romans 8:34. Jesus Himself is at the right hand of God, interceding for us. When we pray for others, we are joining in work He is already doing.
Matthew 5:44. Pray for those who persecute you. This is the hardest part, and the song does not pretend it is easy. I'm not ready to mean it yet. But carry them too.
How to pray for someone who has hurt you
You do not have to feel it first. That is the honest secret in this song. You can pray for the one who hurt you while you are still hurting. You can tell God you are not ready to mean it, and ask Him to carry them anyway.
Start small. Say their name. Ask God to hold them. Leave the rest to Him. Forgiveness is often something we pray our way into, not something we wait to feel.
What the song is about
Carry Them Too is a prayer for strangers. It names the people we pass and never really see, and asks God to do for them what He once did for the singer. It remembers that somebody, somewhere, once prayed for us when we did not know to ask. And it ends with the hardest request of all, a prayer for the ones who hurt us.
Carry Them Too is the album's prayer for other people. Daalu by Michael CU is out on 3 November 2026.
A prayer of intercession
Lord, You carried me when I could not carry myself. Now I lift up the people around me who are struggling in silence. Carry the worried mother, the man whose money is finished, the child who cannot say what hurts. And carry the ones who hurt me too, even before I am ready to mean it. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Carry Them Too lyrics
IntroCarry them
Carry them too
Verse 1There's a woman on my street
Who prays with her back to the window
There's a man who can't tell his wife
That the money is finished
There's a boy carrying something
He can't say out loud
And there's somebody hearing this
Who has nobody to tell
ChorusCarry them too
The way you carried me
Carry them too
When they can't see the road
I'm not asking you to explain it
I'm asking you to hold them
Carry them too
Verse 2I know what to ask for
Because I know what I needed
I know how long a night is
When nobody knows you're awake
I was the one at the back of the room
I was the one they used and forgot
So when I pray for them
I am not praying down at anybody
ChorusCarry them too
The way you carried me
Carry them too
When they can't see the road
I'm not asking you to explain it
I'm asking you to hold them
Carry them too
BridgeSomebody prayed for me
When I didn't know to ask
Somebody was on their knees
In a room I've never seen
I never found out who
I never said thank you
So let me be that
For somebody I'll never meet
And the ones who hurt me
Carry them too
I'm not ready to mean it yet
But carry them too
ChorusCarry them too
The way you carried me
Carry them too
When they can't see the road
I'm not asking you to explain it
I'm asking you to hold them
Carry them too
OutroCarry them
Carry them
Carry them too
For prayer meetings and worship leaders
Carry Them Too works well before a time of intercession, when you want a church to turn from its own needs to the needs of others. Your choir is welcome to use it. The lyric sheet is free. Just message @michaelukwuma on Facebook, Instagram or X and tell me where it was sung.
