Help Me

For anyone standing at the door with a packed bag. The two word prayer, and the hills we look up to.

Michael CU. Out now, and track 2 on the album Daalu.

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

Psalm 121:1 and 2, King James Version

Lord, help me

It is the shortest prayer there is, and maybe the most honest. No long words. No list. Just two words when you have nothing else left. Lord, help me.

This song is for anyone standing at the door with a packed bag. Leaving home. Starting the new job. Moving to a new country. Becoming the person everyone says you are meant to be. You told them you were ready. God knows you are not.

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills

The song keeps coming back to one action. I look up. Even here, I look up.

That comes from Psalm 121:1 and 2. I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. It is one of the Songs of Ascents, sung by travellers walking up to Jerusalem. Every hill they climbed, they saw another one rise. And every time, they looked up.

Psalm 46:1 says the same thing in fewer words. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

I am weak, I'm just a child

Some of the greatest people in the Bible began their calling exactly where this chorus begins.

Jeremiah 1:6. When God called him, Jeremiah said, Ah, Lord God, behold, I cannot speak, for I am a child. God did not tell him he was wrong. He told him, I am with thee.

1 Kings 3:7. Solomon, newly crowned king of Israel, prayed, I am but a little child. I know not how to go out or come in. Then he asked for help, and God gave him wisdom.

2 Corinthians 12:9. My strength is made perfect in weakness. Admitting you are small is not the end of faith. It is often where it starts.

Hold my hand

Isaiah 41:13. For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not, I will help thee. The chorus line hold my hand and walk me one more mile is that verse turned into a prayer.

Romans 8:26. When you have no more words to pray, the Spirit helps our weakness, and prays for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Hebrews 13:5. I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Don't let go. He won't.

What the song is about

Help Me is a prayer for the in between. Between home and wherever you are going. Between who you were and the person you are meant to become. It is honest about the tiredness, the pride, the shame and the fear. It does not ask for an easy road. It only asks God not to let go.

Help Me is the album's prayer for anyone starting something new. Daalu by Michael CU is out on 3 November 2026.

A prayer for help on a new journey

Lord, help me. I am standing at a new door and I am afraid. I am weak and I am small, but You are my help. Hold my hand and walk me one more mile. Do not let go of me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Help Me lyrics

Verse 1I've got one foot on the road, one still at the door
My bag is packed, my courage on the floor
I said I'm ready
Lord, You know I'm not
The road is longer than they said it was
And the ones I leaned on, one by one, are gone
But I look up
Even here, I look up

ChorusLord, help me, 'cause I can't do this on my own
Lord, help me, I'm too small to carry stone
Lord, help me, I am weak, I'm just a child
Hold my hand and walk me one more mile
When the morning finds me still afraid
When I've got no more words to pray
Lord, help me
Lord, help me

Verse 2They tell you go, become the man you're meant to be
They never tell you what you leave behind
Every hill I climb, I see the next one rise
And I'm learning that arriving is a lie
I've been tired in a way I couldn't name
I've been proud, I've been humbled, I've been ashamed
And the man I'm meant to be is up ahead
On the other side of everything I fear
So I look up
One more time, I look up

ChorusLord, help me, 'cause I can't do this on my own
Lord, help me, I'm too small to carry stone
Lord, help me, I am weak, I'm just a child
Hold my hand and walk me one more mile

BridgeIf You say rise, I'll rise
If You say wait, I'll wait
If You say this is the wilderness
Then walk with me, walk with me
Don't let me walk it alone

And if my strength runs out before the dawn
Be the strength that carries me on
I'm not asking for an easy road
I'm just asking, don't let go
Don't let go
Don't let go

Final chorusLord, help me, I can't do this on my own
Lord, help me, I don't wanna go alone
Lord, help me, I am weak, I'm just a child
Hold my hand and walk me one more mile

OutroLord, help me, Lord, help me
Every step, every breath
Lord, help me
